I am thankful to not have to choose livestock to bring to church with me-- on top of wrangling children.

It would also make keeping the sanctuary clean much more difficult. Nevermind the sprinkling of blood onto the place and the people at times.

But cleanliness is a weird thing to consider in the face of the way that God chose to work salvation.

It's an interesting thing to wrestle with, knowing that He loved the people of the Old Testament who lived under that sacrificial system, then having the writer of Hebrews remind us that no one is saved through the law.

Then coming back to, Oh, yeah! Jesus! The Sunday School kids always get that right.

Do we try to hard still to clean up Jesus' death? After being at a church with a crucifix, walking into a church with a cross-- it looks shockingly clean.
