What is wisdom? Who speaks the truth? Entering into this Year of our Lord 2025, most of us are ready to ask few questions about our current path in life and examine our next steps forward. We turn to Wisdom: from our grandparents, from books, and from trusted friends. Wisdom from long-trusted proverbs, well-tried sayings, and stories of old. Wisdom from God, from morality, and spirituality all directs us to grasp a certain knowledge and understanding. But who is right? Who speaks the truth?
For a Christian, this may seem like a silly question. Naturally, Christians expect to learn wisdom from the Word of God. But even those who confess Christ will consider wisdom from several different sources. Parents and teachers, education and entertainment, specialists and artists, and from our own experiences.
Why do we care so much about the search for wisdom? It is in our DNA, it is who we are as human creatures. Since the Garden of Eden, we have a history of trying to be better, trying to be a little more wise with or without the direction of the Almighty. And so, we continue to ask what is true and real and wise.
What do you trust?
To whom do you listen to in your life?
Where will you find the proper direction during your short time here on this earth?
What is Wisdom?
In the next eight weeks, we will explore the many voices of wisdom, fulfilled sayings, proverbs, practical words to live by, influential teachers, popular philosophies of the times, including Wisdom found in the Bible. We will highlight both the knowledge that is discovered in the ancient sources, alongside the wisdom stumbled upon in our everyday: in our social media feeds, in our conversations, in our memories, in our daily living of life.
Together we will uncover the many ways that wisdom speaks into our ears, soul, and mind. The following study is designed to help us take a step back, so we can asses the sources of truth and knowledge in which we hope and trust.
