A voice of wisdom speaks by the boundaries of the law. What is wise? What is not? “Do this and you will live.” We experience the law, rules, discernment everywhere in our world, from traffic laws to civil laws. From the standards of our parents at a dinner table to the rules of the latest video game. “Do this and you will live” guides our action in many circumstances.
The law is everywhere, and it is good. It helps to teach, direct, and model a good and successful course of action. It is quite easy to see how were are influenced by this black and white kind of wisdom.
The Law is clear. Whether it be civil justice, workplace rules, or your mother’s disapproving tone. There is right, there is wrong. “Do this and you will live.” The Law penetrates everything that we do and who we are. And it is not a terrible thing!! The law has been given by God to live productive and peaceful lives. The Law is a foundational source of wisdom.
God’s Law is a huge part of identity and relationship with Him, especially for the Israelites of the Old Testament. These words of wisdom and life were given specifically to God’s chosen nation. God cultivated a relationship of salvation and obedience with his people.
