Wisdom has always been there, even when there was a lack of words, in times of political upheavals and dispersion. Wisdom has been present in prosperity and in ruins, in the words of the clear guidance and also in the mystical words of the prophets.
There are many who claim to channel the wisdom of a higher power. Whether it be by their own perception of supernatural force, or inspired by a higher power. The wisdom in our world seeks the advice and counsel of astrologers, tarot card readers, fortune tellers and mediums, and even modern day prophets that try to predict the end of the world.
What’s your sign? An innocent enough question, however the meaning behind the question is to inquire the stars about the hidden wisdom concerning one’s own personality and compatibility.
This highlights our need for answers about things which we cannot see, things that are just beyond our grasp. Reading the universe, communicating with the unknown forces, by fortune tellers, mediums, and even modern-day prophets are all attempts to channel this deep wisdom.
But the word of God also offers this wisdom. Alongside the Wisdom of Law that had been given by God that guides all hearts and minds, other voices speak. Authoritative, not on their own account, but because they have been inspired by the mouth of our Lord. The prophets of God are the communicators of un-earthly wisdom that is made manifest in the mouth of men.
Yet it is not a typical conversation about wisdom. Prophesy acts like reverse poetry, The poet knows the context and speaks to the situation in parables and metaphors. But the prophet speaks in reverse. He uses the metaphor and the story and the parable. But he himself may have limited ideas about the scope of reality of which he speaks. His wisdom embodies a greater message.
