Vocation of Dissent Good and kind. Polite mind. Soft and steady. Calm and ready. Serving in love. But what if I serve in dissent? Hard and cold. Impious bold. Saint unexpected. Alone and unprotected. Could it be good? Reflecting His glory Or cast as a foil In His pre-determined story. This may be the question I am forbidden ask. Vocation of dissent Small and mild. Weak child. Humble and sweet. Quiet and meek. Offering nothing. But what if I offer dissent? Raw and strange. Plain about pain. Confident and blunt. Exposing upfront. Could it be good? To live desperation Or is it my demon That mocks His creation. This may be the question I am forbidden ask. Vocation of dissent Careful and right. Virtuous fight. Focused and strong. Vigilant against wrong. Praying for peace. But what if I strive towards dissent? Boundless unmeasured. Reckless lost treasure. Vulnerable and unashamed. Tranquil profane. Could it be good? That I push you too far Consigned to dissension It reveals who we are. This may be the question I am forbidden ask.
Is there only one way to praise the Almighty? Vocations of all types give glory to their creator. What if we are bold enough to recognize the beauty of dissent? (What are Lyrics of Conviction?)
REFLECT
on the Words that God first gave to us. Meditate on the Truth that has made any of our words mean anything…
READ Matthew 10:34-39
READ Romans 14:1-4
READ Proverbs 12:15
Thinking of the readings that you paired here specifically, this sounds like a friendship within the church.
To question, challenge, exhort, or play the devil's advocate for a wise man, a fellow child of God, is a way to struggle through God's Word together. If you do the same thing with someone who does not know or care for God 's will, you end up looking like a jerk sometimes.
Back to the friend, if you love someone you will risk upsetting them for their good?
