The Two Types: Are You IN or OUT? (Psalm 5)

Give ear to my words, YHWH;
    consider my groaning.
Give attention to the sound of my cry,
    my King and my God,
    for to you do I pray.
YHWH, in the morning you hear my voice;
    in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.

God is King. He rules over all of creation, all of us. I pray. I acknowledge. That he is the ultimate ruler in charge of all. I pray. I sacrifice. And I watch for the King to do his work.

For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
    evil may not dwell with you.
The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
    you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak lies;
    YHWH abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

This is the nature of our King. He does not get what He wants through questionable means, nor dishonest relationships. Evil and wickedness and boastful and evildoers and liars and bloodthirsty - these the Lord destroys.

But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
    will enter your house.

God is King. And He lets me enter His house. Eventhough I act deceitfully and lie and work evil for my good, He lets me enter His house. Even though I deserve to be lumped with the congregation of those whom He hates, I am collected because of God’s steadfast love: חֶ֫סֶד chesed.

God is King and I know Him by חֶ֫סֶד chesed. I should be thrown out of His presence, but He lets me enter His house. I should be held accountable for doing the evil things that He hates, but He  welcomes me into His family. By His great and ridiculous חֶ֫סֶד chesed.
