Holy Week Devotion
It begins again.
The rejoicing, the shame.
The journey, the death.
A labyrinth of emotion, remembrance, and devotion.
Holy Week.
It is sometimes dormant, the complexity of this story. The years and miles and pages and footsteps that have travelled here before.
Holy Week.
Still, it begins again.
And here we walk together
To hear the old story, with a renewed heart.
This week I offer the following Holy Week Devotions on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday to inspire our creativity and connection in the Passion of Christ.
What the Savior Didn't Know
He heard it a million times from his mom; son of God, born of a virgin. When he was younger, he did not really know what all those words meant. Everyone was nice to him and he had a special place when they went to temple. He remembered the old men looking at him with tears in their eyes, and the widows would touch his little shoulder when he walked by. They told him that he was born of the Spirit, and there was much he would do in his lifetime. When he was little, he tried to imagine what it was he would get to do.
When God Lets Go
God began His world with a parting of the waters above and the waters below. “Let there be light,” He said, separating the light from the dark. Holding back the elements of turbulent chaos, with His great hands. Pulling forth life from dust. Bracing in place the puzzle of existence, piece by piece, with His omnipotent grasp.
The Stone is Rolling
The stone is rolling. Teetering on the edge. Where once it was secure, placed by the fingers and hands of the Almighty Creator, fixed in its place. Where it once was separated from the waters, the sky, and the soft earth. Where it once was part of majestic mountains that hovered, that threatened. Where it once had purpose and meaning in the ordered creat…
