The words we hear at the worst of times. The words we say in the moments we cannot explain. Turning to Him. Trusting in Him. We try to give an answer for Him. When God should be helping and listening but the answer isn’t clear.
“God will not give you more than you can handle”
We say.
On the surface, this seems like a faithful response to the unknown. He is the author and creator of everything, right? So He already knows what will break you. He knows what is too much. More than you can handle, we say, God will not give to you.
Or if the situation becomes overwhelming, He has more power than anyone, right? He will give you the power to overcome. Move mountains, walk on water, and defeat all of your enemies. So if it all spins out of your control, we say, God will make you more powerful.
We say.
Rumors have it that this is a verse from the Bible, but it is only a misunderstanding of these words of God: "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13) God will not let you be tempted, but He will give you more than you can handle.
